Civil Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments of Govt. Polytechnic Nagpur. The department has highly qualified teaching staff. It has well equipped laboratories with machines, equipment and instruments necessary to conduct experiments related to various courses. The department is in continuous process of development and modernization of laboratories.

The department conducts visits of students to various construction sites and civil engineering structures regularly. Students are deputed for industrial training to make them aware of the world of work. Expert lectures of eminent persons from construction industries are organized. The department also conducts multi-event programmes such as ADOBE for the professional development of students. Many students participate in sports at institute level and sports organized under IEDSSA. They also participate in technical paper presentation, quiz competitions and cultural programmes.

Many pass-out students are working as engineers on key posts in the Public Works Department, Water Resource Department, various Government organizations and private organizations. They are also working as entrepreneurs and contractors.
