Mining & Mine Surveying
About the Department
Department of Mining & Mine Surveying is established in the year 1963. Both male and female candidates are eligible for admission to this programme. It is the only diploma course in the institute which is under MSBTE pattern. This course has intake capacity of 36 students and it is on Yearly pattern (Sandwich).
The students have to go for practical training after summer examination. Training is arranged in underground Coal Mines of WCL (Western Coalfields Limited) or Metal Mines of MOIL Ltd. Duration of training is 06 weeks after First Year and 06 weeks after Second Year and is part of curriculum.
After passing diploma the student is required to take further one year practical training as Post Diploma Practical Training (PDPT) either in Coal or Metal mine as per their choice and pass Gas Testing examination and First Aid Certificate examination conducted under Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) for getting exemption from Overman / Foreman certificate from DGMS. Currently the Department is providing First Aid Training and certifying them as First Aider as per approval from DGMS.
After getting Overman / Foreman Certificate students are eligible for employment in Coal / Metal mines. The students may get jobs in Government organizations such as WCL, MOIL, MECL, IBM, CMRI, UCIL, HCL, HZL, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Dept. of Explosives etc.
The department has well equipped laboratory and well qualified and experienced teaching faculty.
